Frequently Asked Questions About Upholstery

Is reupholstery worth it?

In many cases, absolutely. High-quality furniture is often built with solid frames and superior construction, making it well worth restoring. Professional reupholstery allows you to keep furniture you love while updating its appearance, comfort, and style. It is also a more sustainable alternative to replacing well-made furniture.

Is it cheaper to reupholster a sofa than buy a new one?

It depends on the quality of your existing sofa and the type of replacement you're comparing it with. Many well-built sofas are worth reupholstering because the frame and construction are far superior to many modern mass-produced alternatives. Reupholstery also gives you complete freedom to choose the fabric, finish, and comfort level and gives the furniture longevity.

What types of furniture do you reupholster?

We reupholster a wide variety of furniture, including:

  • Sofas

  • Armchairs

  • Dining chairs

  • Wingback chairs

  • Footstools and ottomans

  • Window seats

  • Headboards

  • Antique furniture

  • Bespoke upholstered furniture commissions

If you're unsure whether we can help with your furniture, simply send us a few photographs and we'll be happy to advise.

Do you make bespoke sofas and upholstered furniture?

Yes. Alongside our reupholstery services, we undertake bespoke upholstery and furniture commissions, including bespoke sofas, handmade upholstered headboards, footstools, banquette seating, window seats, and other made-to-measure upholstered pieces. Frames are generally made from high quality Beechwood or Oak.

Can you make furniture to fit an awkward space?

Yes. Many of our furniture commissions are designed for alcoves, bay windows, period properties, and other spaces where standard furniture simply won't fit. We create made-to-measure upholstered pieces designed around your exact dimensions.

Can I choose my own fabric or leather?

Yes. You're welcome to supply your own upholstery fabric, or we can help you choose from a wide selection of quality fabrics, leather, and specialist upholstery materials to suit your style, budget, and practical requirements.

Can you replace the foam in my sofa cushions?

Yes. We regularly replace worn interiors using premium upholstery foam, feather fillings, and Dacron fibre. New cushion interiors can dramatically improve comfort, support, and the overall appearance of your furniture.

Can you repair my furniture instead of completely reupholstering it?

Yes. Not every piece of furniture requires complete reupholstery. We carry out a wide range of furniture repairs, including:

  • Spring replacement

  • Webbing replacement

  • Frame repairs

  • Stitching repairs

  • Button replacement

  • Foam replacement

  • Cushion repairs

  • General upholstery repairs

We'll always recommend the most appropriate solution for your furniture.

Do you offer a home visiting repair service?

Yes. Where suitable, our skilled craftsmen can carry out minor upholstery and furniture repairs in your home, saving you the inconvenience of transporting large or heavy furniture. If you require more extensive repairs that need to come to our workshop, we can transport your furniture safely and if required, provide you with a loan sofa.

Do you work with Insurance companies?

If you have had an accident at home and have an insurance claim, please rest assured that our workmanship has a full history of Insurance Company approval.

What commercial upholstery work do you undertake?

We work with pubs, clubs, restaurants, cafés, hotels, offices, care homes, and other commercial premises, providing seating repairs, commercial reupholstery, banquette seating, made-to-measure seating, and bespoke upholstered furniture commissions.

Do you reupholster cars and motorbikes?

Yes. We specialise in car trimming, car reupholstery, and motorbike seat upholstery, including leather and fabric interiors, Bentley-style stitching, quilted upholstery, tram stitching, and bespoke automotive interiors.

Do you provide marine upholstery?

Yes. We undertake marine upholstery for sailing boats, yachts, and leisure craft, including cockpit upholstery, cabin seating, forepeak cabin upholstery, replacement foams, new interiors, and bespoke marine covers.

Do you upholster motorhomes, caravans, and campervans?

Yes. We provide bespoke upholstery for motorhomes, caravans, and campervans, including cab seat upholstery, living area seating, new foams, complete interior refurbishments, leather upholstery, quilted finishes, and durable fabric recommendations.

How long does reupholstery take?

Every project is different, depending on the size, complexity, and materials involved. Once we've discussed your requirements, we'll provide an estimated timescale and keep you updated throughout your project.

How much does reupholstery cost?

Every quotation is tailored to the individual project. The cost depends on the size of the item, the amount of work required, and your choice of fabric or leather. We're happy to provide a free, no-obligation quotation based on photographs or by discussing your requirements.

Can I use my own fabric?

Yes. You're welcome to supply your own upholstery fabric for your project. Before any work begins, our experienced craftsmen will review the fabric to ensure it is suitable for upholstery and appropriate for the intended use.

The durability, composition, pattern, and width of the fabric can all affect the finished result, so we'll be happy to advise whether it is the right choice for your furniture or upholstery project. If your chosen fabric isn't suitable, we can recommend high-quality alternatives that will provide the best possible finish and long-lasting performance.
